No bail for teen accused
A TEENAGER who allegedly held people at knifepoint during a home invasion before leading police on a 20-minute car chase which ended when the stolen vehicle burst into flames has been denied bail.
Boady Davis, 19, appeared in Southport Magistrates Court yesterday morning facing charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, entering a dwelling to commit an indictable offence and two counts each of armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Davis denies all the allegations. A 17-year-old has also been charged in relation to the offences.
Magistrate Mark Howden denied Davis bail as he felt he was an unacceptable risk of not appearing and the strength of the Crown case. “To state the obvious, these are extremely serious offences,” he said. “The allegations are that he broke into this house armed with a knife and demanded money and bank cards.”
It is alleged Davis entered the Biggera Waters home about 1.40am and took the cards as well as the keys to a car which he drove away in.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable James Treanor said for most of the robbery Davis was wearing a black mask.
Police later spotted the car which led them on a 20 minute chase which ended when the car burst into flames. It is alleged Davis was driving and he was arrested at 4am.
Defence lawyer Hayley Robertson, of Legal Aid Queensland, said Davis would be fighting the charges. She said the teenager was unemployed but was looking for work as a kitchen hand. The matter is due to return to court on September 6.
