Injury blow for flying Spurcraft

- MARK OBERHARDT

QUEENSLAND speedster Spurcraft is set to miss the southern spring carnivals after suffering an injury.

Spurcraft is regarded as one of the fastest horses in Queensland and has won his two starts back from a spell.

His latest was at Doomben when he won a Class 6 (1110m) in slick time.

Before that, he carried 62kg to an effortless win over 900m at the Gold Coast.

In all, Spurcraft has had nine starts for six wins and three minor placings.

The gelding has a big following because he is trained by Darling Downs schoolteacher Charlotte White. Spurcraft was expected to have his next start in Brisbane before heading south later this month.

But White has told stewards the gelding has a hairline fracture to his off-side hind splint bone.

The injury is not expected to need surgery and Spurcraft has been sent for a spell.
