Cops follow suspicious rider to handgun, drugs
GOLD Coast Rapid Action police took just 24 hours to locate, arrest and charge a 48year-old Miami man after a gun and drugs were found in a Burleigh Heads industrial shed.
RAP head Senior Sergeant Mat Kelly said patrolling police spotted a man on a “motorised bike’’.
“The reason he came to our attention is that he was wearing a black balaclava,” he said.
“So we intercepted him and spoke to him about it. We were able to ascertain where he was residing and as a result, executed the search warrant. That led to the discovery of weapons and drugs and his arrest.”
Police executed the warrant about 1am on Sunday on a Township Drive industrial shed where they allegedly located methylamphetamine, MDMA, utensils, a 9mm handgun and a CO2 propelled pellet hand gun and ammunition.
The man was charged with two counts each of possession of a dangerous drug and unlawful possession of a weapon, and one count each of possession of property suspected of being used in the commission of a drug offence, authority required to possess explosives (ammunition) and possession of a utensil.
He will appear in Southport Magistrates Court on August 30.
