Fatal floods in Philippine­s

THREE people have died and nearly 60,000 have been displaced by widespread floods in the Philippine capital and northern provinces over the weekend, the national disaster relief agency says.

More than one million people have been hit by the floods, which reached as high as 1.8m in some areas in metropolit­an Manila, the agency said.

More than 33,000 residents in the capital had been forced to flee their homes since Saturday, while 26,000 people were also displaced in the north. The casualties included a man, 36, and a woman, 61.
