HISTORIC CAROUSEL GIVEN ITS FINAL RIDE
THE historic Broadbeach carousel has had its last ride.
But it may be replaced by a new attraction pending an investigation by council officers.
Area councillor Paul Taylor moved a motion which called for the 120-year-old ride to be relocated. He said he loved the carousel, but it had become unsafe and very costly to maintain. “Councillors I believe we had an incident this year where one of the horses jumped off the post,” he said. “... if a child had been riding on that particular horse the injury could have been serious.”
Deputy Mayor Donna Gates, who agreed, moved that the ride should be immediately decommissioned and removed from the mall.
Only Peter Young, Daphne McDonald and Dawn Crichlow voted against the motion.
