MINIMAL MAINTENANCE AT MT TAMBORINE SHOWPIECE

- EMILY HALLORAN

IT’S every gardener’s dream to have everything grow with almost no effort, and Pam and Geoff Warrell are living it.

The couple have a sprawling garden across 2.5 acres on The Shelf Rd at Tamborine Mountain which they say requires little to no maintenance.

But after eight years the couple has decided to downsize, putting the home and large block on the market.

The Warrell’s garden showcases a wide range of plants from florals, hedges and trees that according to Ms Warrell mostly take care of themselves.

“The garden has been mulched, so we do get weeds, but not a lot,” she said. “We top up the bark every year, which is not too expensive because we buy in bulk. It only costs around $150 a year to replace.”

The garden features a huge pond 30m long, 15m wide and nine foot deep in the centre, providing water for the whole garden.

It has been opened to the public twice over the past decade for the Dreamtime in the Mountains annual show, held in September.
