MAGIC’S IN THE AIR DURING WEEK

- SALLY COATES

SAVVY Gold Coast operators are changing what a night out on the Glitter Strip looks like.

Venues are expanding their night-life offerings to give locals reason to get out of the house on week nights.

The Avenue, Miami Marketta, Last Night on Earth, Gotham Rooftop Bar and Currumbin RSL are among the night-life leaders holding week-night activities, including themed trivia, open mic sessions, comedy nights, drag nights and now magic shows.

As of August 28, The Avenue at Surfers will offer Magic in Paradise every Tuesday, in addition to karaoke Mondays, comedy Wednesdays, Dragalicious Thursdays and the nightclub every weekend.

“The comedy nights and drag shows have been huge hits so I wanted to do something different again,’’ owner Michael Russo said.

“The magicians are incredible. They have been working on a special show for when we launch.‘’

Josh Armstrong, owner of comedy company Based Comedy, said weeknight entertainment was definitely on the rise.

“Venues are starting to support so many forms of art and creativity ... all through the week,” Mr Armstrong said. “Now you can finally spend your weekends on the couch where you belong ... while supporting local artists during the work week.”
