Hero nomination

A LOCAL police officer has been nominated for a Local Hero Award for Achievement by QBANK.

The award is designed to recognise emergency authorities who have made a difference in the community.

Newly stationed Sergeant Damien Ahearn, of Surfers Paradise, was nominated after helping to create a more positive culture change through the Northern Rivers Region Stingers Queensland Police Rugby Team – which is based in northern Queensland.

Sgt Ahearn helped to promote local and state charities on the team’s jerseys and managed fundraising auctions. Since 2012, about $14,000 has been raised by the team.

Sgt Ahearn will now shift his focus to helping manage the South East Queensland Muddies.
