Afternoon fight suits both

- ANDREW HAMILTON

RIVAL coaches Chris Fagan and Stuart Dew have joined forces to urge the AFL for an earlier QClash timeslot to better showcase the local derby.

QClash 16 will be held at 7.25pm at Carrara’s Metricon Stadium on Saturday and both clubs believe a standard afternoon timeslot for every derby would lead to bigger crowds.

“A day game or perhaps twilight is more conducive to families,’’ Dew said.

“I’ve got a five-year-old and two-year-old and if the game was 7.30pm in Brisbane I’m not sure we’d be wanting to drive home at 11.30pm and then deal with that on Sunday.”

Fagan thought QClashes should start at 3.30pm and said it was an issue worthy of raising with the AFL.

“I think that’s the ideal start time, then the game is over by about 6pm, get some dinner on the way home and take your time,’’ he said.

“That’s probably the ideal slot for up here isn’t it, it is something we probably need to look at and talk about down the track.’’
