Woman escapes attacker after being choked, bound

- BRITT RAMSEY

POLICE are searching for a man who assaulted, choked out and bound together the wrists of a sex worker in a brutal attack on Monday night in Broadbeach.

Southern Gold Coast investigative group Detective Sen- ior Sergeant Simon Garrett said the assault occurred around 7pm after the woman met a man near a Surf Pde unit complex.

“The woman invited the man to her apartment when he claimed he’d forgotten something, which he wanted to retrieve from his car,” he said.

“The pair were walking back into the building when suddenly, without any warning the man turned and struck the woman quite heavily and moved into a position where he was able to choke her out.”

The woman lost consciousness and CCTV vision shows the man standing over her, using restraints to tie her wrists together.

“Luckily she regained consciousness and was able to struggle (away). She was further assaulted but got to her feet and ran off,” Sen-Sgt Garrett said.

The “planned” attack has deeply concerned officers.

“We’re particularly concerned about what the ultimate intentions of this offender were, obviously the assault is quite significant. He was trying to incapacitate her, so we’re very keen to appeal to the public for any information,” he said.

The woman sustained facial injuries and is co-operating with police.

The man is described as being in his late 20s or early 30s, 170cm, proportionate to stocky build, broad shoulders, clean shaven, blonde/sandy hair, blue or green eyes, wearing a light coloured hoodie and a cap.
