FUN SPILLS OVER
LITTLE Lennox Hiller made a bit of a mess yesterday, spilling coloured powder over his head.
But dad Aaron didn’t mind one bit – it was all part of the fun enjoyed by 8000 people at yesterday’s Color Run.
“He loved it, it’s just such a good day out with the kids,” Mr Hiller said. Mr Hiller, Lennox, three-year-old Marley and mum Patei Jones all took part.
“We had a really great day out with the whole family,” Mr Hiller said. “The kids loved it and it’s something we will all cherish as a family.”
RUNNING through technicolour clouds was the order of the day for thousands of men, women and children – and even a unicorn – who took part in the Gold Coast’s annual Color Run yesterday.
A crowd of more than 8000 took part in the “happiest 5km run on the planet” at Southport’s Broadwater Parklands.
Even Bono the ‘unicorn’ was dolled up, wearing colourful flowers in his mane and tail – and of course covered in the Color Run dust.
Holidaymaker Kersti Noumees, 22, of Estonia, said she was on the Gold Coast for just three days, but had specifically taken part in the fun run during her Coast stay.
“I ran today, I had a really great time,” she said.
“I enjoy running and I really like this event.”
The fun run sees thousands jog, run or walk through posts where they are showered in blue, purple, red or yellow dust.
“I came here specifically for the run,” Ms Noumees said.
“It was a really wonderful run. But I also came for the beaches and the city. I really, really like the Gold Coast, it’s very beautiful.”
After the run, hundreds gathered at the main stage for the Finish Festival where they danced to the beat of electronic music as even more packets of colour were sent skywards.
Event director Marcus Gale said it had been a great success, with the registration fees going towards the Starlight Foundation.
“We had a fantastic day,” he said.
“It was a great vibe ... great festival atmosphere where people could get in and do some exercise in a fun way.”
Since the first Color Run was staged in 2011 more than six million runners in over 35 countries have exprerienced the event.
