Man faces charges for attack

GOLD Coast detectives have charged a 29-year-old man with multiple offences after an alleged robbery at Broadbeach last week.

The man is alleged to have assaulted a 40-year-old woman outside of a Surf Pde unit complex around 7pm last Monday night.

Police will allege he hit her in the face and then made and attempt to restrain her by binding her hands.

The woman managed to break free and found help at a nearby police station.

She sustained facial injuries during the attack which was caught on CCTV.

A Southport man, 29, has been charged with one count each of robbery with violence, assault occasionin­g bodily harm, disabling in order to commit an indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possessing a category M weapon and receiving tainted property.

Category M weapons include a range of bladed weapons such as butterfly knives, disguised blades, flick knives, trench knives and walking stick swords.

The man will appear at Southport Magistrate­s Court today.
