A DIFFICULT CALL

-

A NOTABLE feature in the debate about the Broadbeach carousel is that nobody really wants to see it go.

The decision to remove it has clearly been made with great reluctance, by councillors whose responsibility it is to act in the best interests of the public.

Councillor Paul Taylor, in moving a motion to have the ride relocated at full council last week, made clear that he did so with a heavy heart.

Cr Taylor spoke of the joy the ride had given his own family during its many years of operation. But he also made clear his very great concerns about the safety of an attraction with a 120-year history.

Unquestionably, safety must come first. But if any realistic way can be found to save the carousel it would be welcomed by everyone.
