Accused on bail before assault rap

-

A GOLD Coast man who allegedly punched a female sex worker in the face, choked her until she fell unconscious and tried to handcuff her with zipties before she escaped his attack at Broadbeach last week was on “three sets” of Supreme Court bail.

Bradley Knudson, 32, was refused bail in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday on charges of robbing and assaulting a 40-year-old woman at Broadbeach last week.

Police said Knudson’s alleged attack was “premeditated and pre-planned”.

Police prosecutor Constable Lewis Butterfield said the alleged attack was captured on CCTV and the victim had identified Knudson.

However, Knudson’s defence lawyer Demi Quadrio, of Gatenby Criminal Law, said her client was the victim, telling the court Knudson said there were two other men who assaulted him before he was involved in a confrontation with the woman in self-defence.

Ms Quadrio said the woman described the attacker as blond and 177cm tall but Knudson had brown hair and was about 190cm.

Knudson, supported in court by his mother and partner, stood up and told the court it was “killing me” being in jail.

Magistrate Mark Howden said it appeared Knudson was on three sets of Supreme Court bail and faced other charges for unrelated matters.

He said Knudson was an unacceptable risk to release from custody and refused the bail application.

The matter was adjourned to August 28.
