GOLD COAST BULLETIN Monday August 22, 2005

AUSTRALIA’S favourite songbird daughter and battler of adversity, Olivia NewtonJohn, was struggling with heartbreak again.

The Grease star’s boyfriend of nine years, cameraman Patrick Kim McDermott, was revealed to have been missing for almost two months off the coast of Los Angeles.

Newton-John was said to be devastated and baffled by McDermott’s disappearance, news of which had only just filtered out.

The American had been missing since July 1 2005 after telling friends that he was going on a fishing trip with friends.

McDermott failed to attend a family function on July 6.

Rather than call the authorities, his family members began a search for the 48-yearold.

On July 11, his family found McDermott’s car in the car park of the San Pedro marina.

His family contacted the US Coast Guard immediately after finding the car.

McDermott was last seen aboard a sport fishing boat which left San Pedro Harbour, 38km south of Los Angeles, on June 30.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s missing persons unit was investigating the case, along with the Coastguard, but had failed to reach any conclusions.

Although it was believed McDermott was legitimately missing, there was claims of evidence suggesting he might have deliberately faked his disappearance.

Little was known about McDermott, and Olivia NewtonJohn had kept their relationship secretive during the time they had been dating.
