WBC win for Chelsea
REEDY Creek’s Chelsea Hackett is the new World Boxing Council international lightweight champion after overcoming Italy’s Emily Wahby in Brisbane.
Hackett, 20, captured the belt in the 135lb division with a fourth-round stoppage of Wahby in the Battle by the Bay fight card, adding to her WBC, WMC and WKBF Australian lightweight titles.
The victory on Saturday night took the former St Andrews Lutheran College student’s professional record to 16 wins, four losses and three draws.
She told the Bulletin her goal now was to defend the belt early next year and earn a shot at the WBC world title.
Having taken up Brazilian jiu-jitsu four months ago, she then hopes to switch to UFC.
