FOR Robyn Russell, her Paradise Waters garden is an oasis.

And she’s not the only one who thinks so, with judges of the Gold Coast Bulletin’s Best Gardens competition choosing her sculpture space as the best of the best.

Co-owner of Upper Coomera Landscaping Supplies and competition judge Amanda Burrett said judges were looking for “innovation, use of lots of natural materials, different ideas, attractiveness and functionality”.

Ms Russell’s blissful cactus garden was planted just 12 months ago when the entire property and house received a total face lift.

“I had a very firm idea of the design I wanted, I got a lot of ideas from Pinterest and tweaked them,” she said.

“I’m a complete novice, I designed the garden myself and got together with a builder to make it to my specifications. It’s real amateur hour in this garden.”

Runner-up Pam Warrell’s Tamborine Mountain paradise is filled with “trees that colour beautifully on the mountain”.

The entire sloping garden, pond and terraces can be seen from the back of the property, which adds to the allure of the space.

Third placed Ranine Beaumont-Harvey is no stranger to accolades, taking out the first place medium garden for the Gold Coast city competition in 2004.
