We are fast losing our point of difference. Our big open spaces filled with unattractive blocks of concrete, blocking out the blue skies, creating shade on neighbouring properties, cold, soul-less wind tunnels, traffic congestion ... why would southern city residents want to holiday here?

The Gold Coast will sadly become a wall of concrete.

Rents going up, shops packing up and moving out killing small business the backbone to Goldy tourism.

But this is a city, not a rural area. The likes of Singapore have done a great job of City planning. It can be done.

I knew the Gold Coast from the ’60s ... I can’t believe the difference ... It’s just getting too crowded ... I have to relocate!

We are the sixth-largest city in Australia ... and almost the fifth. We aren’t the same place we lived and played in in the ’60s ... and there is no going back. There are people here who need to work and live ... so stopping progress is not going to happen. If you really love it here and want to stay you have to find the spot you are happy in ... which we have done! There is a lot of green behind the gold.

The same residents who wanted Hedges Ave as a gated private road to keep the plebs out. The same residents who stopped the ocean path ... on council land most of them have claimed as their own. Of course it has nothing to with their own mansions losing value as the towers will have views into their yards.

It makes a mockery of our city plan and diminishes value of our suburbs. The “exceptions to the rule” are what the developers are taking advantage of. The architecture is dubious and lacking pizzazz. When are we going to realise we need to keep some suburbs “real” and not another botoxed tart like Surfers Paradise?
