DAYS ARE WARMING BUT RAIN ON WAY
SPRING is coming early, but before you try to emulate Bundall’s Leila McLeod by jumping into your swimmers to take advantage of predicted warmer mornings and hotter days next week, there is rain coming.
Leila soaked up the sunshine at the Broadwater Parklands rock pools yesterday.
But after a very dry July and August, forecasters are predicting the Gold Coast will see up to 50mm of muchneeded rain this weekend.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Harry Clark said rain was likely over the next three days.
“We will see some showers and a possible thunderstorm on Sunday night expected to carry into Monday morning,” he said. “There will be widespread showers.
“Comparing it to the average, which is 22mm, there is a chance that the Gold Coast will see up to 50mm of rain this weekend.”
Forecaster Michelle Berry said Gold Coast mornings would start to feel more like spring.
“The minimum temperature will increase over the next few mornings due to more moisture coming through the air,” she said.
“Surfers Paradise will see mornings of around 9C.’’
Maximum temperatures of 26C were likely mid to late next week.
So far just 0.8mm of rain has been recorded this month.
