Shot in face with spear

A MAN who shot his partner in the face at point-blank range with a speargun will spend at least a decade in jail.

The 48-year-old, who cannot be named, pointed the weapon and shot her between the eyes in what Victorian County Court Judge Susan Cohen called a “wholly selfish, cruel and callous” act.

The woman survived the July 2016 attack, which lodged a 1.6m spear in her head, but is now blind in her left eye and battles a constant stream of tears from a damaged tear duct. The attack was the final in a string of domestic violence incidents since 2013.
