Man held over arson

A MAN accused of an arson attack in central Queensland, which left a police officer in hospital and a house destroyed, will stay behind bars.

The man, 44, faced Rockhampton Magistrates Court yesterday charged with arson, burglary and domestic violence offences after a blaze in Yeppoon late on August 19.

Two officers rushed in to check that no residents were caught in the blaze, but were forced back by smoke, police said. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, did not apply for bail and is due to reappear on October 17.
