The joy of six not lost in Broncos finals tilt

- RIKKI-LEE ARNOLD

THE Broncos will have to defy an eight-year finals hoodoo if they are unable to secure themselves a top-six finish in the next two weeks.

Brisbane are in jeopardy of missing out on a home final this season, sitting in seventh spot on the ladder ahead of tomorrow night’s meeting with Sydney Roosters.

They need to finish in sixth or above if they want to host a game at Suncorp Stadium.

It remains possible, but they will need to win their final two games of the season.

According to Fox Sports Stats, it is vital the Broncos do so if they are any chance of being premiership contenders, given they have not won a finals game away from Suncorp Stadium since 2009.

The Broncos have won their past seven finals games at Suncorp, but outside of the hallowed ground they have eightstraight finals losses.

Their last win in a final not at Suncorp Stadium was against the Titans in 2009 on the Gold Coast and their last finals win outside of Queensland was in 2008 when they defeated the Roosters at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Broncos great Gorden Tallis said the Broncos had to use tomorrow’s clash as an audition for their finals run.

“Mathematically they can get a home final, but you don’t want to be talking mathematically,” he said.

“This week’s really important because if you want to win the competition, this is the side you have to beat and you’ll have to beat them at one of the grounds in Sydney.”
