Seagulls not after new goal-kicker

-

TWEED Heads will not specifically target a sharpshooter in their 2019 Intrust Super Cup recruitment plans despite a modest year with the kicking tee.

The Seagulls’ valiant effort against Papua New Guinea a fortnight ago was brought undone by their relative inability to convert tries but coach Ben Woolf believes he has capable goal-kickers in his current roster.

Five-eighth Lindon McGrady kicked for the most part before getting injured, recording a 69 per cent success rate, while Kane Elgey, Eli Levido and Rex Johnson have been among other options used.

“We have struggled around consistency with who kicks,” Woolf said. “We have got a lot of options.

“I don’t think I’ll be recruiting specifically for a goal-kicker to be honest, I think it’s just a matter of our guys maybe doing a bit more work and someone doing the job early and just sticking with it.”

Cross-town rivals Burleigh have also battled in the twopoint department, with Jamal Fogarty operating at only 67 per cent and Tyronne Roberts-Davis at just 55 per cent.
