Six police hurt in clash
SIX police officers have been injured after clashing with a group of men in a laneway in southern Victoria.
Two officers were escorting a man from a licensed venue at Queenscliff on Saturday night when two other men assaulted them, police said yesterday.
The officers chased the trio to a lane and tried to arrest them but they were hindered by other patrons from the venue. Seven men have been arrested and are expected to be charged with offences, including assaulting police and resisting arrest.
Three police officers were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and three were treated for minor injuries but did not go to hospital.
Victorian premier Daniel Andrews told reporters yesterday it was “simply unacceptable” for anybody to assault a police officer.
