Labrador still alive

-

ONE down, three to go.

Labrador have survived their first Brisbane Hockey League knockout final after outclassing University of Queensland 6-2 at the State Hockey Centre on Saturday.

Fourth at the end of the regular season, the Tigerstix will now enter another do-or-die semi against third-placed Pine Rivers St Andrews, who lost 4-3 to Commercial.

Labrador were forced to come from behind against the Red Roos, who opened the scoring through Ryan Smith.

Joe Reardon then levelled before Australian Schoolboys selection Will Mathsion and Dylan Wotherspoon gave the Tigerstix a two-goal lead.

Reagan Martin extended Labrador’s advantage to three goals after the break and while the Roos hit back through Tom Smith, goals from Wotherspoon brothers Blake and Dylan sealed victory for the Tigerstix.

Labrador’s August 4 meeting with Pine Rivers ended in a 2-2 draw, with the Tigerstix prevailing 7-3 in Round 7.
