LABRADOR have stunned minor premiers Burleigh to book a place in Gold Coast Hockey Association’s women’s division 1 grand final.

Having lost just twice in 17 games during the regular season and with Hockeyroo Rosie Malone in their line-up, the defending premiers entered yesterday’s major semi final as red-hot favourites.

They appeared on track for victory when Eleanor Rawding gave them the lead in the 20th minute, before Labrador hit back through Stephanie Perkins 10 minutes later.

Laney Smith then scored the decisive goal in the 59th minute to send Labrador into the September 8 decider.

Burleigh will face Roosters, who beat Mudgeeraba 4-2, in yesterday’s preliminary final.

Labrador also pulled off a major upset in men’s division 1, edging out minor premiers Kingscliff 4-2.

Kingscliff now play Burleigh, who beat Waratahs 5-1.
