MORE HONOURS FOR THE SHARKS
SOUTHPORT coach Stephen Daniel has been named the NEAFL’s coach of the year, while three Sharks players have earned selection in the team of the year.
Daniel (pictured) took out the coveted coaching position after helping to orchestrate one of the greatest transformations in NEAFL history.
The respected coaching figure arrived at the Sharks at the end of 2017 after the club finished second-last on the ladder with four wins. A successful recruitment drive and a change in club culture have lifted the Sharks to a topof-the-table finish following the end of the regular season. Midfielder Josh Clayton, who finished third in the MVP voting, was named in the team of the year alongside Sharks forwards Michael Manteit and forward Tom Wilkinson. Incredibly, Southport cocaptain Andrew Boston failed to make the team despite the midfielder finishing sixth in the MVP voting. Aspley’s Ben Warren, who didn’t make the top 10 in the MVP, was named ahead of him.
