Historic win has Saints up for flag

-

THE Carrara Saints have booked their place in the QFA division three men’s grand final following a 13-point win over Kedron.

The Saints will have the chance to play for their first senior premiership on Saturday when they face Ipswich at Wilston Grange’s home ground at Bendigo Bank Oval.

It will be the club’s first senior grand final appearance, while Saturday’s 13.16 (94) to 10.11 (71) win against Kedron was their first finals victory.

Carrara trailed by six points at halftime but broke clear in the second.

“We knew if we were with them at half time we were in the box seat,” coach Nicholas Pearson said.

Ashley Templar kicked six goals, taking his season tally to 94, while midfielder Rhys Nossiter added three.

Pearson said midfielder Jordy Grainger inspired the win, breaking lines with his run and carry and taking nine lastquarter marks to seal the win.

Club legend and founding member Cliff Baker was brought to tears after watching son Sam secure a piece of history for the club in front of 500 spectators at Nielson’s Road Oval.
