Centre switch a top fit for Liolevave

TWEED Heads ace Lamar Liolevave could be bound for more time in the centres after impressing there against the Northern Pride.

The Seagulls nabbed a 10-10 draw in Cairns on Saturday night after Liolevave scored in the final minute off an Eli Levido kick before Rex Johnson nailed the match-levelling conversion.

The result, which takes Tweed back ahead of Wynnum Manly to finish the year in 11th place, was built on gritty defence – including a 10-minute window when Kiah Cooper was sin-binned for a professional foul.

Usually a second-rower, Liolevave (pictured) spent the entire game in the centres as coach Ben Woolf experimented with a view to next season.

“It’s something that I wanted to have a look at, I sort of thought it might suit him the way he runs and it may take a bit of pressure off him in defence so we can get a bit more out of him with his carries,” Woolf said.

“He marked Enari Tuala, who has played a fair bit of first grade this year.

“I think it could be an option for him going forward. That’s why I thought it was worth having a look at and seeing how he went with it and he did a good job.”

Earlier on Saturday, Burleigh celebrated Luke Page’s 100th game for the club with a 48-18 win over Easts to secure a vital top two finish.

It means the Bears can clinch the premiership in as few as two games – starting with a grand final qualifier against Redcliffe in a fortnight – whereas teams placed third to sixth must win four.
