Jail until Christmas for drug addict

-

A DRUG addict had an unconscious woman, 8g of ice and 2g of fantasy in his car when police pulled him over in January last year.

Troy Lawrence Thompson, 43, pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court of Queensland at Southport yesterday to two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one of possessing utensils used for drugs.

Justice David Boddice sentenced Thompson to 18 months prison. He has been jailed until Christmas Eve due to his inability to comply with parole conditions and continued drug offending since 1992.

Mr Boddice’s decision came despite Probation and Parole recommending Thompson as suitable for probation.

Crown prosecutor Gary Churchill told the court police pulled over Thompson in Labrador on January 20, 2017, and noticed an unconscious woman in the passenger seat. A search of the vehicle uncovered the drugs.

Defence barrister Claire Boothman, of Legal Aid Queensland, said Thompson had made attempts to quit drugs but had relapsed.

She said Thompson had an 18-year-old daughter who was about to have heart surgery.
