Grubs pinch club fencing

-

INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into the “disgusting” theft of a Nerang sports club’s fencing, after they were targeted twice in less than a week.

Thieves originally removed more than 20m of fencing late last week, before returning on Sunday evening to take the last of the fence and the guardrail from the disabled access ramp.

Nerang Soccer Club club spokesman Luke Sorensen believes they arrived with their own cutting equipment and possibly a truck.

Mr Sorensen said it was a “massive drain” on the club.

“Our club isn’t a wealthy club, we don’t have a cash reserve. Everything in our club goes back into our kids so when you do something like this and steal from a community club like this you are stealing from kids,” he said.

“At the end of the day all the resources we have to put into dealing with this theft are resources that aren’t going towards the kids, and it’s disgusting to think there are people out there who would do something as petty as this.”
