FGC SCORES GOAL WITH NEW DEAL FOR COAST

- BRENT O’NEILL @Brent_ONeill

FOOTBALL Gold Coast have stepped up their mission to provide year-round playing opportunities after forming a partnership with Goals Australia.

As part of the deal, Football Gold Coast will work with Goals to create Summer League competitions for age groups from under-8s to 15s.

The Goals format focuses on the key elements of constant ball play and will offer players the chance to maintain their skills over the off-season.

Football Gold Coast operations officer Alan Marquez said the timing of the partnership was perfect as the governing body explores opportunities to expand the game.

“We are looking at all avenues to increase the time we play football here on the Coast,” Marquez said.

“The work and vision behind what we are trying to do aligns with Goals, so it is a partnership we are looking forward to growing.”

Goals Australia owner and operator Cameron Watson said the relationship was a positive step forward for football on the Coast.

“For me, it’s all about the kids staying involved and active during their off season, but at the same time making it affordable for parents. The idea of keeping the boots on and having fun with their mates while playing outdoors makes perfect sense,” he said.
