Bears’ top combo at sixes and sevens

-

BURLEIGH’S unbeaten halves pairing will be split up for their Intrust Super Cup grand final qualifier after Dylan Phythian was hit with two charges from their 48-18 win over Easts.

The five-eighth found himself in strife for a grade two careless high tackle in the first half at Langlands Park on Saturday before then copping a grade one dangerous contact with the head/neck charge in the second term.

The Bears have already accepted the early guilty plea, meaning the mid-season recruit from Newcastle will be sidelined for one match instead of two had he unsuccessfully challenged the judiciary.

Two matches could have seen him not play again in 2018, given that Burleigh will go straight into the decider if they defeat Redcliffe at Dolphin Oval on Saturday week.

Burleigh have won all four games since Phythian and Jamal Fogarty combined in the halves as a result of the seasonending pectoral injury suffered by Dallas Wells.

Josh Rogers is the leading contender for the No.6 role.
