No new stops for Pimpama

-

DESPITE pleas from residents and a petition calling for extra bus stops in Pimpama the State Government has refused to commit to more.

Yesterday the Bulletin reported that one of the Gold Coast’s fastest growing suburbs has just two bus stops along its busiest route, Yawalpah Rd. It means residents who use public transport, including the disabled and elderly, must walk kilometres to get to a stop.

Readers shared their frustration with 92.68 per cent of respondents to a poll agreeing that the suburb needed more public transport options.

On Facebook, Kylie Annef wrote: “The western and northern suburbs need far better public transport options, including improved timetables that adequately service school and peak-hour commuters.”

But Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the government position hadn’t changed and it was continuing to develop “a safe and accessible solution as a priority”. “I am aware of ongoing issues relating to public transport near Yawalpah Road at Pimpama Junction Shopping Centre,” the minister said on Wednesday.
