PROFERRING THE RIGHT ADVICE
PROFESSOR Tim Brailsford, Vice Chancellor of Bond University, does not profess (sorry) to being a politician. However his welcoming speech at the monthly Gold Coast Business Awards held at Bond certainly hit the right notes with the bizoids in attendance. He quoted some statistics that demonstrate the importance of the small business sector to the Australian economy. Enterprises of fewer than 20 employees contribute $343 billion to our economy which is about one third of our non-government GDP. Among his many facts and figures the most astonishing is that that sector gets the least amount of government assistance – about a quarter of that received by the large corporations. Given the importance of small business to the Gold Coast economy his words certainly had an effect. Tim for PM!
