A GOLD Coast beauty pageant debutant has aced her first Miss World Australia contest, winning the national crown.

Make-up tutor and veterinary nurse Taylah Cannon, 23, who attended Helensvale State High School, will be Australia’s entrant in the 2018 Miss World Internatio­nal final in Sanya, China on December 8.

Taylah yesterday said she was determined to bring the internatio­nal title home for the first time since Belinda Green claimed it for Australia in 1972.

“I’ll give it my everything,” she said.

Taylah was crowned Miss World Australia 2018 at a glittering event at Palazzo Versace on Friday night.

“The girls are all so polished and perfect,” she said. “I think it worked in my favour that I’m a bit of a rookie.”

Taylah, who entered after a New Year’s resolution to do something out of her comfort zone every day, said she was still on a high after Friday night’s announceme­nt.
