Trainer has Mystic Mist set for Brissie

RESPECTED Gold Coast trainer Harold Norman will return to Brisbane with flying filly Mystic Mist this weekend following the second win of her career at the Gold Coast.

Jockey Rikki Palmer rode Mystic Mist to victory in the QTIS Three-Years-Old Class 1 Plate (1200m) at Aquis Park on Saturday. The filly was bought for just $8000 by Norman at the 2017 Magic Millions Yearling Sales and has already won $71,300.

That could jump as high as $151,000 if Mystic Mist wins the QTIS Three-Years-Old Fillies Handicap (1200m) in Brisbane this weekend.

“She has been a promising filly all along and her run (on Saturday) was good,” Norman said.

“We will go to Brisbane providing she pulls up well, which I think she will. That wasn’t really a hard run for her.”

The planets could be aligning for Mystic Mist with experts predicting rain over the coming week.

Mystic Mist has proven her ability on wet tracks, winning her maiden race on a heavy track at the Gold Coast in February before going on to finish second at Doomben in her next start.

Mystic Mist began her second preparation with an eighth at the Gold Coast on August 18 but it only gave Norman confidence the filly would contend in her next start with improved fitness.

“Her first run was good over 1400m,” Norman said.

“It was a top run. She was first up after a spell with two easy trials but it just wasn’t enough for the 1400m. It was more my mistake than anything.

“She came around them with 200m to go around the lead but couldn’t go on with it. She just wasn’t fit enough.”

Mystic Mist is by Instinction, the same sire who produced Paradis Imperial, a four-year-old mare bought for $12,000 who has won $362,075 for Rockhampton trainer Tony McMahon.
