Redemption on the cards after Kingscliff victory

- – BRENT O’NEILL

KINGSCLIFF have earned a shot at revenge in Gold Coast Hockey’s men’s Division 1 after setting up a grand final showdown with Labrador on Saturday.

Beaten 4-2 by Labrador in the major semi on August 26, the minor premiers yesterday bounced back with a 6-2 defeat of Burleigh in the preliminary final.

Leading 3-2 at halftime on the back of goals from Jason Wilson

(two) and

Chris Fahy, Kingscliff went on with the job thanks to second-half strikes from

Nathan Eglington, Kyle Jeffrey-Prestwich and Henry Prichard.

In women’s Division 1, Burleigh booked their grand final ticket after overcoming an early challenge from Roosters to emerge 6-3 victors yesterday. After opening the scoring through Ruby Harris in the 12th minute, Burleigh conceded shortly after when Roosters’ Casey Dolkens registered her 11th goal of the season.

The sides exchanged goals again midway through the match, with Georgia Hillas’ 30th-minute strike cancelled out by Dolkens.

But it was all one-way traffic from then on, with Morgan Mathison, Jordyn Fuller, Rosie Malone and Harris putting the icing on the cake for Burleigh.

They will now play Labrador, who were surprise 2-1 winners when the sides met in the major semi, in the title decider.
