Long way to the top: Touk

- TOM BOSWELL

TOUK Miller says the Gold Coast playing group is prepared for a slow build to success that needs to start with a shift up the ladder in 2019.

Miller finished runner-up in the Gold Coast’s club champion voting behind Jarrod Harbrow following another consistent season.

Gold Coast finished 17th on the ladder after winning just four games, two fewer than last year and, with the likes of Matt Rosa retiring and Michael Barlow being delisted, an already young Suns list could get even younger in 2019.

Miller said the team was realistic about its prospects and, while they still wanted a premiership, they understood it was the small steps that would one day deliver it.

“We don’t want to be too ambitious but we work in sixes,” Miller said.

“We were in the bottom six this year, we want to be in the next bracket of sixes (in 2019).

“We want to strive for the best in years to come, which I’m sure is going to happen for us, but it will be a slow build. We are positive about where we are going.

“We are not going to win the premiership straight away or aspire to do that because you don’t want to chase goals that are a bit unrealistic.

“Where we sit we want to be in a position where we can put ourselves in finals contention or at best sitting at that part of the table.”
