Widdop return a boost

ST George Illawarra captain Gareth Widdop will be one of up to three players who could return when the NRL finals begin this week.

The Dragons will play Brisbane in an elimination final after finishing in seventh spot following an unconvincing 10point win over Newcastle on Saturday.

Coach Paul McGregor could have all three of Widdop (shoulder), Euan Aitken (hamstring) and Jason Nightingale (elbow) back from injury for the match. Only Widdop is likely to train with the playing group this week.

“We get ‘Gaz’ back next week, so our attack will improve straight away,” McGregor said. “(Aitken is) a good chance, too.”
