A WOMAN is dead following a medical incident on the side of a busy Gold Coast road, while a man was being questioned by police late last night about the incident.

It’s understood the utility was seen driving erratically on the Northern Coast, before it was pulled over on Pine Ridge Road in Coombabah about 11.49am.

The car did not crash, but pulled over under police guidance.

Uniformed officers approached the car and noticed the man appeared to be under the influence of a substance, and the front seat passenger was unconscious.

The officers pulled the woman from the car and began performing CPR on her on the side of the road, before paramedics arrived and took over.

The woman, 23, away at the scene.

A 36-year-old passed Paradise Point man was released from Gold Coast University Hospital last night.

Police arrested him due to an outstanding warrant and alleged drug related offences.

The man is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court today.

Detective Inspector Mark Thompson confirmed the woman had died on the side of the road and police were investigating.

“We located a vehicle containing a female having a medical episode, QAS were called and she was subsequently declared deceased and police are investigating,” he said.

The man was taken to the Southport Watch House from the Gold Coast University Hospital yesterday afternoon and late last night was being questioned by police.

It’s believed the car was seized and is being treated as a crime scene and will undergo an extensive search.

A post mortem on the woman is expected to be performed today. Police are investigating whether drugs or alcohol were factors.
