Mayor talk ridiculous: Langbroek

-

GOLD Coast MP John-Paul Langbroek has quashed speculation he wants to be the city’s next mayor.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk last week sounded out the long-running Surfers Paradise politician in Parliament after being asked by the Opposition why the Government had not helped a Commonwealth Games volunteer get out of a parking ticket issued during the event.

“The fine was not issued by the State Government, it was issued by the Gold Coast City Council,” she said.

“We are happy to speak to the Mayor about that matter ... Of course, the rumour is that the Member for Surfers Paradise is looking to become the new mayor of the Gold Coast.”

Mr Langbroek said the rumours were “just ridiculous”.

“I have no intention of running for Gold Coast mayor,” he said. “Tom Tate is a great friend of mine and has been since we worked at the chamber of commerce.

“I have just been re-elected and he has indicated he is running for a third term. I want to be a minister in the Frecklington government in 2020.”
