The Gold Coast Bulletin

Dear Member, FYI ‘not one museum on Coast’ ... many

-

WITH reference to MP Karen Andrews’ article in which she was quoted, “It really is ridiculous that a city of this size does not have one museum”.

Imagine my shock and horror to read this coming from a House of Representatives member.

Is this typical of the treatment that our well-paid politicians give us on the Gold Coast?

All they have to do is a little research before they open their mouths to speak rubbish such as this. Go to the website Museums on the Gold Coast and see with your own eyes what diverse museums exist here. If you drive along Ferny Ave in Surfers Paradise you will see The Wax Museum, which has been trading since 1968 and is celebrating “50 years on the Gold Coast”.

The Gold Coast and Hinterland Museum opened in 1972.

The War Museum at Mudgeeraba has been trading since 1975.

The Mudgeeraba Light Horse Museum has been operating for some time.

I have not mentioned all the museums in the Gold Coast area but this is a good start to show how wrong our leaders can be.

Yes, you politicians did not care when you closed off roads and let businesses suffer during the Commonwealth Games. Just said nothing, did nothing.

It is blatantly obvious that you have no idea of what museums we have here and how diverse or special they are.

You the politicians should be giving the museums and businesses on the Gold Coast the accolades and awards that any other country would give their museums.

Instead you have no idea that museums on the Gold Coast exist.

Museums employ a lot of staff and volunteers and keep the history of the area, our country and that of other countries alive so that all have the opportunity to see, learn, and experience.

Museums and businesses are a very valuable part of any community and deserve due recognition.

It is time for politicians to get out of their ivory towers and see what is happening in their areas, especially the Gold Coast.
