-

A WOMAN who died after being hit by a car on Nerang St on Tuesday night was reportedly sitting in the middle of the road.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Ferry and Nerang Sts about 7pm after reports of a car colliding with a pedestrian.

The 44-year-old woman suffered critical injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

Yesterday, morning a man who claimed to have witnessed the incident said the woman was sitting in the middle of the road when she was struck.

The man who didn’t want to be identified said he was driving to his office on Ferry St when the woman was standing in the middle of the road.

“I thought she was directing traffic,” he said.

The man said he went into his office and collected some things.

“When I came out she was sitting in the middle of the road near the servo,” he said.

“Two cars missed her but the third car hit her.

“The poor dude driving just couldn’t see her.

“It was a horrific thing to see.”
