WE’RE STILL SIZZLING AND BELIEVE IN THIS PLACE

- RYAN KEEN

STEVE and Autumn Adams – and their Broadbeach steak restaurant and bar – are still sizzling with patrons more than a decade after opening

The pair who launched Moo Moo 13 years ago in an area then dubbed by some as ‘Broadbeach Bronx’ say trade remains strong despite the slump some venues on Surf Parade have gone through.

Moo Moo is among a host of operations in the dining precinct continuing to drag plenty of patrons in despite others shutting their doors.

Mr Adams, an engineer for British Aerospace before trying his hand at hospitality, said he didn’t buy into talk of Broadbeach losing its mojo “in any way shape or form – you walk around this area any day of the week and you’ll see venues full, we’re largely full every night.”

Mr Adams said he sympathised with Surf Parade owners hit by nine months of city council road works and dismal Commonwealth Games: “I feel for all the people who endured that. But when venues close there are a number of reasons: was it on trend, was the menu the same for 10 years?”

Mr Adams said the key to success was carving out a niche and having resources to “weather any storms”.

“They think they’ll open their doors and people will flock to them but they’re not doing anything different.”
