Coast’s finest in line for top awards
THE finalists have been decided for the 2018 Gold Coast Bulletin Local Sports Stars Awards.
Following a tough selection process in which the long list of nominations was whittled down to a handful in each category, those still in the running have been revealed.
In the Local Sports Star Individual category, Commonwealth Games swimming medallist Laura Taylor is joined by surfing starlet Piper Harrison, boxer Kiwa Jai King and talented duo Ava Usher (surf lifesaving) and Brooke Stewart (hockey).
In the Local Sports Star Team award, Gold Coast Mermaids Synchronised Swimming Club, basketball’s Gold Coast Waves, Mermaid Beach’s under-14 Mermaids (surf lifesaving) squad and rugby’s Helensvale Hogs under-9s are in the running.
David Mackie, Ben Tullipan, Georgi Venkov, Steven Langley and Troy Lavery make the shortlist in the Service to Sport category.
The Young Sporting Spirit Individual award finalists are Cooper Cousins, Gabriella Comito, Havana Harris, Lachlan Ogden and Liam Barnes.
Two teams made the cut for the Young Sporting Spirit Team division: Somerset’s Brisbane International tennis champions and Currumbin Cheer Leopards.
The winners will be announced on October 17.
