COAST COMP AWAITS

- FIONA PURDON

MULTIPLE Commonwealth Games medallist Georgia-Rose Brown is ready to continue her successful home-state comeback at the Australian Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Classic on the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Gold Coast-bred Brown has reignited her drive to tackle her third Olympic cycle starting with this week’s world championship selection event, as part of the National Clubs Carnival at the Sports and Leisure Centre in Carrara.

Brown, 23, returned to the Queensland Gymnastics program at Chandler ahead of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games after several years based in Victoria.

She competed in an Australian-high four finals at the Games and won a team bronze medal and a silver medal on beam.

“The move back to Queensland helped tremendously,” she said.

“I was able to be back with my family, and back with Misha (Barabach), my coach of seven years while I was in Melbourne.

“With the right support team and positive environment, it makes it seem like anything is possible.’’

Brown, along with fellow Queenslander Rianna Mizzen, are vying for top position in the two-day competition to ensure automatic world championship selection before the final October 12 trial.

“It means a lot to me to have my first competition since the Games back on the Gold Coast,” Brown said.

“It allows me to have another opportunity to have my family come watch and support me.’’
