Swimming coach legend has added another pool to his swim school empire, this time at Burleigh Heads
SWIMMING legend Laurie Lawrence is making a splash in the commercial property market – quite literally.
His daughters Jane Lawrence and Kate Lawrence and her husband Travis Simpson are behind the purchase of a pool complex at 6 Flagstone Dr, Burleigh Heads, for $1.15 million.
The complex, after the deal settles on September 19, will become the third Laurie Lawrence Swim School, complementing existing schools at Banora Point and Logan.
The property was purchased from retired Olympic swimmer Brad Cooper who ran the facility with his wife Cheryl for more than 20 years.
Mr Lawrence, who is overseeing the launch of the pool under the Laurie Lawrence banner, said it is rare for pool complexes to come up for sale.
“When I looked at it with my daughters we were very impressed,” he said.
“The pool is fully tiled with five lanes 2.5 metres wide.
“It has been beautifully designed by Brad Cooper and he put everything into it.”
Mr Lawrence said the opening of the pool on October 2 coincides with Learn2Swim Week in Australia and New Zealand.
He said as part of the week the Burleigh Heads school is giving away five free swimming lessons to clients.
The pool complex is situated on a 1483/sq m parcel of land in the Burleigh Heads industrial area.
It contains a 25m heated pool, undercover heated children’s pool, change rooms and office.
Ray White Broadbeach commercial sales agents Adam and Tony Grbcic managed the transaction - the first for them involving a swimming pool.
“We marketed the property differently, with the strategy being to contact all the top swim schools in southeast Queensland, and head swim trainers,” Adam Grbcic said.
The property was sold with the majority of fixtures and fittings remaining.
“We had three written offers in two months on the property, all from operational swim schools so we were quite active,” Tony Grbcic said.
“We welcome anyone else selling pools because now we have a massive database. Part of my negotiation skills involve pulling on Speedos and doing some laps.”
