FURTHER
to the letter by Graham Bradley (GCB, Sept 11), what weight do we put in Councillors Caldwell and Tate (referring to their comments GCB August 25 in reference to the City Plan)?
Caldwell: “This is about balance and ensuring we plan for the future … which would heavily impact our green and open space”; and Tate: “… this protects natural green space, parks, playgrounds and broader open space”.
Now we have Council reducing green space at Evandale to make way for 7800sq m of sealed carparking when there are less damaging options available.
Council have already captured much of the John Fraser Memorial Park carparking for a private contractor to use as material storage, and seem set on flogging off the profit-generating Bruce Bishop Carpark, meanwhile approving multiple residential developments with insufficient carparking.
Further, the Evandale parkland is set for substantial residential and commercial highrise development.
It makes the comments of Caldwell and Tate iniquitous, but apparently indicative of their preparedness to ride roughshod over green space and the ratepaying population.
Residents should be aware, your parks and open spaces are not safe from the clutches of this Council. BRIAN HARDIMAN, SURFERS PARADISE
