ADAM’S ROAD FROM KIDS TO CARNAGE

- JIM TUCKER

ADAM Coleman’s warmand-fuzzy new-dad moments have been all about cuddling and cleaning but he now has to snap into the heavyweight collisions to win a Test.

The doting father knows there will be a time to show off his iPhone photos of daughter Fia and it won’t be on the Wallabies bench at Cbus Super Stadium tomorrow night.

The giant lock will add serious clout as a super-sub against the brawny Argentinian pack now Fia being born three weeks premature has all worked out smoothly for partner Tonia.

“I don’t think you’re a dad until you’ve been poo-ed on ... I’ve had some nappy incidents already,” Coleman said with a smile during a coaching session with kids at Miami State High School.

Coleman withdrew from the Wallabies on game day against South Africa last Saturday for a rushed flight to Melbourne and the “family first” policy of his squad gave him comfort before the birth the following day.

“I apologised to the boys for leaving them short but Izack (Rodda), Rory (Arnold) and Simmo (Rob Simmons) did a tremendous job to get the win and I’m glad I got to the hospital,” Coleman said.

“We induced early because there were going to be some complications and now we have this little baby girl.

“It’s just amazing, a very emotional experience. She’s a little gem.”

Coleman wondered how useful he was at home doing little duties, buying nappies and wipes after watching the Test win on his phone beside the hospital bed.

His physical presence will be vital after the Pumas and he knows “that playing on top of them” with smothering defence and dominant tackles is a good start to a winning formula.

Coach Michael Cheika expects Coleman will be up for the Test: “He’d be on a bit of a high.”
